Welcome to the “Growing Our Own” Workshop Series

The University of Kentucky, in partnership with The U.S. Small Business Administration, Commerce Lexington, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky Finance and Administration, The KY APEX Accelerator, and the Small Business Development Center Kentucky, proudly presents the “Growing Our Own” workshop series. 

Supported by the Office of Land-Grant Engagement, this initiative is dedicated to empowering Kentucky-owned, including women-owned, veteran-owned, and minority-owned businesses.  Our comprehensive four-week program offers vital knowledge and resources to help participants succeed in the small business landscape.

  • Sept. 16: Knowing Your Kentucky Entrepreneur and Small Business Resources (5pm EST)
  • Sept. 23: Understanding Bids, Requests for Proposals, & Bonding Requirements (5pm EST)
  • Sept. 30: Understanding Which Business Certification is Right for You (5pm EST)

What can I expect at each workshop?

Each workshop will cover a different topic. The topic of each workshop is:

  • Sept. 9: How to do Business with the University of Kentucky
  • Sept. 16: Knowing Your Kentucky Entrepreneur and Small Business Resources
  • Sept. 23: Understanding Bids, Requests for Proposals, & Bonding Requirements
  • Sept. 30: Understanding Which Business Certification is Right for You

The workshop will begin at 5pm EST and include a 30-45 minute long presentation and end with Q&A with topic experts. For a summary of each workshop, click here

How much does the workshop series cost?

The workshop series is free. 

I don't live near any of the locations offered. Can I still access the workshops?

The workshops will be offered again in the Spring at new locations. Those locations are TBD. 

The workshops will be available online after the series is over. However, it is recommended to attend in person if possible to have access to topic experts in the Q&A portion of the series.
