UK, Turner Construction open applications for Construction Business Accelerator Program
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky, in partnership with Turner Construction, has opened applications for the fifth cohort of its Construction Business Accelerator, a 12-week program aimed at strengthening local construction-related businesses.
The accelerator provides participants with training in safety, site logistics, insurance, bonding, contracts, subcontracting, estimating, scheduling, construction accounting and bid preparation. The program concludes with a mock bid project and post-bid review by a panel of industry experts. All classes will be held in person at the University of Kentucky Cornerstone building.
“As we enter our fifth year of this program, I am proud of the ongoing positive impact that our community partners have created through collaboration,” Kristen Smitherman-Voltaire, community and citizenship director with Turner Construction said. “We have seen CBA graduates continue to thrive in the market as a result of their participation, and Turner is thrilled to play a role in this effort.”
Over the past four years, 65 individuals representing 58 companies have graduated from the program. These businesses are gaining the confidence and capabilities to compete more effectively in the construction industry. Already, 15% of graduates have secured contracts with UK and other community partners.
“Our community partners are what make this program truly unique,” Marilyn Clark, UK economic engagement manager said. “Each one brings new opportunities for growth and contracting, helping us build a stronger, more resilient construction ecosystem.”
