LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 17, 2025) — The "Growing Our Own" workshop series launched April 17 with its first session, “How to do Business with UK,” held at Commerce Lexington and streamed online. The event, designed to empower Kentucky-owned businesses, offered participants insights into accessing contracting opportunities at the University of Kentucky.

Led by UK Procurement Services and Economic Inclusion experts, the workshop covered key topics such as understanding the procurement process, economic inclusion initiatives, construction and MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) opportunities, and strategies for building business relationships.

Presenters included Marilyn Clark, UK economic engagement manager; Barry Swanson, UK chief procurement officer; Corey Leslie, UK associate director for construction procurement; and David Stefanic, UK procurement manager.

Attendees enjoyed a complimentary dinner and networking opportunities during the session.

The free, three-week series aims to equip small business owners with knowledge and resources to thrive in today’s economic landscape. The next session, “Knowing Your Small Business Resources,” will take place Thursday, April 24, at the same location and time.
