On Tueday March 1st, the  Security Advisor Alliance and UK Economic Development Collaborative (EDC)  hosted a Cyber Security Careers Workshop for students interested in pursuing a career in the field. The event took place in the Cornerstone Building.

“There are certain careers that are very well paying that a lot of our students don’t get exposure to. Cybersecurity specifically has about 500,000 job openings across the county,” said George Ward, Director of the EDC. “What we wanted to do is expose students to companies in the region in the hopes that they could get internships and jobs after they graduate.”

The free event was sponsored by Microsoft, MasterCard, 13 Layers, Fusion Cyber, Phishing Box, Simply Paper and other prominent cybersecurity firms. It featured a highly interactive workshop on cybersecurity careers, pathways and networking.

Working CISOs, VPs, Directors and Managers from Northern ky, Indianapolis, Louisville and Lexington were on-site to serve as mentors for the event. The program covered skill sets and soft skills. Additionally, it gave the students networking opportunities.

“At present, we are focused on promoting our industry to the next generation and ensuring that the students, teachers, and schools have the resources and mentorship necessary to foster the cybersecurity professionals of the future,” said the Security Advisor Alliance.
